250 word Artist Statement

As a self employed musician, teacher, and recording engineer, I work within the Alberta music scene, aiming to provide a number of services to different people and organizations.

My primary passion is teaching privately, both in person, and online. In lessons, I like to explore anything musical that my students want to learn about. This includes anything from the voice, to ear training, music theory, recording, guitar, piano, ukulele, arranging, and pedagogy.

In addition to teaching, I also work as a recording/live sound engineer for choirs, concert bands, small ensembles, and individuals. Building up over time not only a skill set, but a set of equipment that includes microphones, mixers and interfaces, recording software and plugins, speakers and amplifiers, instruments, cables, and stands.

While performing is not my primary focus, it’s still a critical element of my success as a teacher and engineer. It keeps my skills and ear sharp, and allows me to stay connected to the music community in order to better serve its needs. I’ve performed with Pro Coro Canada, Edmonton’s professional choir, for 18 seasons, and Luminous voices, Calgary’s pro choir, since its formation in 2012. I’m also hired as a soloist periodically, and sing in an 80s cover band, MixTape.

During the pandemic, I’ve been fortunate enough to help various organizations and individuals retain their connection with one another by designing music technology setups to suit the needs of both the moment and future.
